Muggenbach is a district of the Upper Franconian town of Seßlach in the Coburg district .
geography
Muggenbach is located about 14 kilometers southwest of Coburg in a valley basin at the foot of the 387 meter high mountain Hoher Stein. To the north-east of the village, about 800 meters away in the forest, are the Muggenbach clay pits, which have been used for clay mining for the stoneware, earthenware and porcelain industries since the end of the 19th century and have been nature reserves since the beginning of the 21st century.
history
The first documentary mention was in 1290, when the Langheim monastery in “Mockenbach” acquired six estates.
The manor belonged to the Tambach monastery office. In 1803, Langheim Abbey was secularized as a territorial part of the Bamberg Monastery and part of the Electorate of Bavaria . In January 1806, Count Joseph Carl von Ortenburg took possession of the Tambacher Lande, to which Muggenbach also belonged, as an imperial county of Ortenburg-Tambach . In October 1806 the county was mediatized . From December 1806 to 1814, Muggenbach belonged to the Grand Duchy of Würzburg as part of the Tambacher Land . After its dissolution, the Tambach Lordship Court was assigned to the Mainkreis . In 1862, Muggenbach was incorporated as a district of Lechenroth into the newly created Bavarian district office of Staffelstein .
In 1871 the village had 15 residents and 9 buildings. The inhabitants belonged to the parish of the Catholic parish church in Seßlach and the Protestant parish church in Gemünda. In 1925 the village had 26 residents and 3 houses. The Catholic students attended the school in Oberelldorf and the Protestant those in Gemünda .
On July 1, 1972, the Staffelstein district was dissolved, from then on the Lechenroth community belonged to the Coburg district . In the course of the Bavarian regional reform , Lechenroth and Muggenbach were incorporated into the city of Seßlach on May 1, 1978 . In 1987 the solitude of Muggenbach had six residents and a residential building with five apartments.
