Mujeserski ( Russian Муе́зерский ; Karelian Mujehdjärvi ) is an urban-type settlement in the Republic of Karelia in Russia with 3328 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The place is about 270 km as the crow flies north-northwest of the republic capital Petrozavodsk on the Mujeserka, a left tributary of the Tschirka-Kem .

Mujeserski is the administrative center of Mujeserski Rajons and the seat and only locality of the municipality of Mujeserskoje gorodskoje posselenije.

history

The place goes back to a forest workers' settlement, which was built in the 1930s about 20 km from the Karelian village of Mujeserka (Russian name), which has been known since the 16th century . During the Finnish-Soviet War , the area was occupied by Finland from 1941 to 1944 . The old village was destroyed by the war and no longer exists.

In 1949 the construction of the West Karelian Railway from Suojarwi to the north began. In 1962 the station Mujeserka was reached; the surrounding village received in 1965 as Mujeserski the status of an urban-type settlement.

On December 30, 1966, Mujeserski was the administrative seat of a newly created Rajons named after him.
