The Municipio Porongo (formerly: Ayacucho ) is a district in the Santa Cruz Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The municipality of Porongo is one of five municipalities in the Andrés Ibáñez province . It borders in the north with the province of Sara , in the east with the province Ichilo , in the southwest with the municipality El Torno , in the southeast with the municipality La Guardia , and in the east with the municipality Santa Cruz . The central place is Porongo in the south-eastern part of the district with 1,433 inhabitants ( 2012 census ).

The municipality of Porongo is located east of the Cordillera Oriental on the edge of the Bolivian lowlands and is bordered by the Río Piraí to the east towards the municipality of Santa Cruz. The region has a semi- humid, humid tropical climate with low day and night fluctuations in temperatures.
