The municipality of San Joaquín is a district in the Beni department in the lowlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia . The municipality of San Joaquín was founded on August 21, 1709.

Location in the vicinity

The municipality of San Joaquín is one of three municipalities in the province of Mamoré and extends from north to south over the entire length of the province. It is bordered by the municipality of Puerto Siles to the northwest , the province of Yacuma to the southwest , the municipality of San Ramón to the east , and the Republic of Brazil to the north .

The largest town and administrative seat of the province is San Joaquín with 4,556 inhabitants ( 2012 census ), which is composed of several municipalities.

The municipality of San Joaquín is located in the Moxos plain , with over 100,000 km² one of the largest wetlands on earth. The predominant form of vegetation in the San Joaquín region is that of the tropical savannah .
