The Municipio Santos Mercado (also Eureka ) is a district in the Pando department in the lowlands of the South American Andean state Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
The municipality of Santos Mercado is one of three municipalities in the province of Federico Román and includes its northwestern area. It is bordered to the west by the municipality of Ingavi of the province of Abuná , to the south by the municipality of Villa Nueva , to the east by the municipality of Nueva Esperanza , and to the north by the Republic of Brazil .
The municipality extends between about 9 ° 45 'and 10 ° 30' south latitude and 65 ° 51 'and 66 ° 38' west longitude, its expansion from west to east is up to 95 kilometers, from north to south up to 85 kilometers .
The municipality comprises eighteen municipalities ( localidades ), most populous localities are Villa Victoria with 333 inhabitants and San Martín with 240 inhabitants. ( 2012 census )
geography
The municipality of Santos Mercado is located in the Bolivian part of the Amazon basin in the northeastern section of the country on the border with Brazil. The main rivers are the Río San José and the Río Candelaria.
The mean average temperature of the region is 26 ° C and fluctuates only insignificantly between 25 ° C in May and just under 28 ° C from December to February (see climate diagram Riberalta). The annual precipitation is about 1,300 mm, with a pronounced dry season from June to August with monthly precipitation below 20 mm, and a humidity period from December to January with monthly precipitation of more than 200 mm.

The life expectancy of newborns in 2001 was 58.1 years, while infant mortality fell from 16.5 percent ( 1992 ) to 8.8 percent in 2001.
86.6 percent of the population speak Spanish , 1.8 percent speak Quechua , 0.5 percent speak Aymara , and 12.1 percent speak a non-Bolivian language, mainly immigrants from neighboring Brazil to the north. ( 2001 )

Transport network
The municipality has no road connection with the rest of the department, the road network is limited to a few short, poorly maintained internal regional roads. The connection to the rest of the country is made by land during the dry season and by water or air all year round.
