The Munt la Schera ( 2586.7 m above sea level ) is a mountain in the Livigno Alps . It is located in the Swiss canton of Graubünden in the area of the municipality of Zernez .
,The mountain is located in the Swiss National Park between the valleys of the Ofenbach (Rhaeto-Romanic Ova dal Fuorn ) in the north, the Spöl in the southwest, the Gall valley in the south and the Ova da Chaschabella stream in the southeast. From a geological point of view, the mountain range with the Munt Chavagl and the Munt Buffalora consists of various sedimentary rocks , mainly conglomerates, sandstone and dolomite. The steep mountain slopes are covered by forest up to a height of around 2000 meters, especially the God la Schera forest in the south. The Alp la Schera farm is located above this forest area and can only be reached by footpaths.
The Ofenpassstrasse runs at the northern foot of the Munt la Schera , in the south lies Lake Livigno , which is mostly on Italian territory, with the dam at the Punt dal Gall area . Most of the water flows from the Livigno reservoir through a tunnel to the Ova Spin power station of the Engadin power stations, and the remaining water flows into the Spöl Gorge.
A road tunnel under the Munt la Schera connects the Engadine with Livigno . It is owned by the Engadin power plants, which levy a toll for use .
A hiking trail (Route 15 of the Swiss National Park), which is connected to a geological nature trail, leads over the Munt la Schera . The sights of this hiking trail include old mine tunnels at Buffalora and earth currents at Munt Chavagl .
