Life
Murray Gershenz was born in the Bronx on May 12, 1922 and initially worked as a mechanic for the parachute troops during World War II .
After the war he settled in Los Angeles, where he sang as a cantor in various synagogues.
Soon he began collecting records and tapes of all possible genres. Gershenz then opened a record store in West Adams, Los Angeles, where he collected over 300,000 records over the course of his life. His years of efforts to sell this extensive collection were documented by Richard Parks in the 2011 film "Music Man Murray". He eventually sold his records, which were valued at $ 1.5 million, to a New York collector in early 2013.
From 2001 Gershenz appeared as an actor in various television series. Short appearances in movies followed. A nude scene of the almost 90-year-old actor in the comedy film Hangover (2009) became particularly popular .
