Muscle Ridge Islands
Muscle Ridge Islands is an Unorganized Territory in Knox County , Maine . In 1852 the islands were organized as the Muscle Ridge Plantation , this organization was re-established in 1878 and 1904, but was abandoned in 1915. Since then, the area has been under the administration of the Land Use Planning Commission, the state of Maine. Six people live on the islands.

Muscle Ridge Islands is located on several islands in Penobscot Bay of the Atlantic Ocean . To the west is the mainland with the towns of South Thomaston and St. George .
More famous islands include Andrews Island , Dix Island , Graffam Island , Hewett Island , Monroe Island (Mores Island) , Pleasant Island, and Sheep Island .

Mainly fishermen lived on the islands with their families.
In the middle of the 19th century, granite was mined on the islands, which was shipped to Washington and there contributed to the construction of the Treasury Building. The post offices in New York and Philadelphia were also built with granite from the islands. Today rusty machines and the remains of the workers' quarters and the remains of the quarries are evidence of that time. At that time, around 500 to 600 workers lived at times mainly on Dicks Island and High Island.
