Warren is a town in Knox County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there lived 4751 inhabitants in 1508 households on an area of ​​126.26 km².

Geographical location

Warren is west of Knox County and borders Lincoln County . To the north of the area are Seven Tree Pond and Crawford Pond , and to the west are North Pond and South Pond . The St. Georges River flows south, flows through the Seven Tree Pond and flows into the Atlantic Ocean at Thomaston. The surface of the area is rather flat, without any significant elevations.

history

Warren was part of Muscongus later Waldo Patent mentioned Grants , belonged to the St. George Plantation and was Upper Town of St. George called. The area was settled from 1736 under the patronage of Samuel Waldo . Further settlers, mostly German, Irish and English and Scottish, came after recruiting by Waldo in 1752. Warren was organized as a town on November 7, 1776. The new town was named after Joseph Warren , who had died shortly before in the Battle of Bunker Hill .

In 1777 the town of Thomaston was organized from the eastern part of Warren. Additional land was given to Thomaston in 1798 and 1864. Land was given to Cushing in 1807 and Camden in 1836.

A first rail connection was established in 1889 by the Knox Railroad . She linked Union with Rockland. The line was closed in 1932. In 1990 the Maine Coast Railroad was founded and leased the Portland – Rockland railway line . After the lease was not renewed in 2000, the Maine Coast Railroad broke up. The Maine Eastern Railroad took over the route four years later.
