St. George is a town in Knox County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there lived 2591 inhabitants in 1207 households on an area of 303.68 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , St. George has a total area of 303.68 km², of which 64.80 km² is land and 238.87 km² consists of water .
Geographical location
St. George is located in southwest Knox County, on a peninsula in Penobscot Bay in the Atlantic Ocean and borders Lincoln County . Several islands belong to the area of the town. The most famous are Allen Island , Burnt Island , Caldwell Island , Clark Island , Hooper Island , McGee Island , Mosquito Island , Norton Island , Rackliff Island , Thompson Island and Whitehead Island . The surface of the area is slightly hilly, with no significant elevations.

history
St. George belonged to Cushing until it was organized as a town on February 7, 1803. Until the Town of Cushing was organized, the area was called St. George Plantation. The first settlers are said to have reached the area as early as 1635, with two families who settled here. For a long time there were large flocks of ducks, geese and other water birds on the coasts. In 1865 St. George gave land to neighboring South Thomaston.
