The Miltenberg Museums (formerly also the Museums of the City of Miltenberg ) are the collective term and organizational superstructure for the museums in the Lower Franconian city of Miltenberg in Bavaria and document the city and regional history , the area of which has been populated almost continuously from the Celts through Roman times . The museums are divided into two thematically independent individual museums.

The two museums are run by the city of Miltenberg as non-state museums. Both museums together have over 2500 m² of exhibition space and thus belong to the medium-sized museums. In Lower Franconia , the museums are counted among the most important institutions of their kind because of their important collections.

As indicated in the logo , the museums focus on the three areas of home , art and history . The two semi-arches in slightly contrasting blue form an M and stand for the two individual museums; at the same time, the M can be interpreted for the entirety of the museums and for the city name Miltenberg itself on the banks of the Main .

The city has a large collection of museum exhibits, which is certainly one of the most important in Lower Franconia and has its origins in civic engagement since the 19th century. For the collection, which has grown strongly over the past 50 years, a considerable re-evaluation, processing, preservation and safekeeping of parts of the collection that have not been exhibited became necessary. In 2019, a new central depot was opened at Mainzer Tor .

The new complex is a municipal archive , museum depot and youth center in one, which was created for a total cost of around 9 million euros, almost 2/3 of which were provided by external sponsors and the Lower Franconia administrative district. The entire construction was generously supported by the Lower Franconian government as part of the urban development program. Large parts of the equipment in the work and storage rooms used by the museum were also funded by the State Office for Non-State Museums in Bavaria and the Lower Franconian District Cultural Foundation.

Support association

As with many museums, there is also a support association in Miltenberg : the Freundeskreis Museum der Stadt Miltenberg eV with the aim of " promoting the redesign of the museum and interest in the history of the region through scientific , educational , personal and financial support ". The past 25 years or existing club organizes annual for International Museum Day in May a museum festival.

The museum itself receives support from many other sponsors and is involved in numerous memberships and cooperations.
