Myron Joseph Cotta (born March 21, 1953 in Dos Palos , California , USA ) is an American clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Stockton .

Life

Myron Joseph Cotta entered the Saint John Seminary in Camarillo in 1980 and received the sacrament of ordination for the Diocese of Fresno on September 12, 1987 . After various tasks in pastoral care and in the diocesan administration, where he was responsible, among other things, for the further education of clergy and for environmental issues, he was appointed vicar general in 2011 . He was previously diocesan administrator of the Fresno diocese during the vacancy following the death of Bishop John Steinbock on December 5, 2010 .

Pope Francis appointed him titular bishop of Muteci and auxiliary bishop in Sacramento on January 24, 2014 . He received his episcopal ordination on March 25th of the same year by the Bishop of Sacramento, Jaime Soto . Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Fresno , Armando Xavier Ochoa , and the auxiliary bishop emeritus in the US military ordinariate , José de Jesús Madera Uribe MSpS .

On January 23, 2018, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Stockton . The inauguration took place on March 15 of the same year.
