NGC 1893 is an open star cluster with embedded emission nebula ( IC 410 ) in the constellation Fuhrmann in the northern sky . It has an angular extension of 11 'and an apparent magnitude of +7.5 mag. The cluster is a remarkable 11,000 light-years from the solar system, its age is estimated to be 4-6 million years. Both properties distinguish it from most open star clusters observable in the galaxy.
The object was discovered by John Herschel on January 22nd, 1827 .
In terms of size and star arrangement, the cluster forms an attractive contrast to the star clusters Messier 36 and 38, which are only 2 ° northeast . They are brighter and 3 × closer, which is why they stand out much more clearly from the galactic star background.
