NGC 1888 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc / P in the constellation Rabbit north of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 103 million light years from the Milky Way . Together with NGC 1889 , it forms the galaxy pair Arp 123 . Halton Arp organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups according to purely morphological criteria. This galaxy belongs to the class of elliptical galaxies close to spiral galaxies and disturbing them (Arp catalog) .

The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on January 31, 1785 .
