NGC 1889 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E in the constellation hare. It is estimated to be 105 million light years from the Milky Way . Together with NGC 1888 , it forms the galaxy pair Arp 123 . Halton Arp organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups according to purely morphological criteria. This galaxy belongs to the class of elliptical galaxies close to spiral galaxies and disturbing them (Arp catalog) .
The object was discovered by Bindon Blood Stoney on October 29, 1851 .
