Nadezhda Andreyevna Obukhova ( Russian Надежда Андреевна Обухова * February 22 . Jul / 6. March  1886 greg. In Moscow ; †  14. August 1961 in Feodosia ) was a Russian - Soviet opera singer ( mezzo-soprano ).

Life

Nadeschda Obuchowa came from a wealthy aristocratic family . She was the great niece of the poet Yevgeny Abramowitsch Baratynski and cousin of the composer Nikolai Borissowitsch Obuchow . She grew up in Chworostjanka near Dobrinka (Lipetsk) on the country estate of her grandfather Andrian Semjonowitsch Masaraki , who was active as a musician and patron .

Nadezhda Obuchowa studied singing in Umberto Masetti's class at the Moscow Conservatory . After graduating in 1912, she performed as a concert singer . In 1916 she made her debut as Polina in Tchaikovsky's Pique Dame . Soon she became a soloist at the Moscow Bolshoi Theater , where she stayed until 1943. In 1922 she took part in the first radio concert of the Soviet Union with the aria of Polina from Pique Dame . She took on roles from contralto to high mezzo-soprano . She filled her roles with a unique charm. The operas with her included Carmen , Samson et Dalila , Rimski-Korsakow's The Tsar's Bride , Sadko and Snow Maiden , The Ring of the Nibelung (as Fricka), Emilio Arrietas Marina and The Love of the Three Oranges . Stage partners were in particular Pyotr Slowzow , Leonid Sobinow and Vasili Petrow . The Tsar's Bride with Her, Antonina Neschdanowa and Vasily Petrow was also the first radio broadcast from the Bolshoi Theater. Her concerts took up a large space, with her repertoire comprising more than 300 romances and songs .

During the German-Soviet War , Obukhova stayed in Moscow and continued to perform, including radio broadcasts. She gave her last concert in June 1961 in the Crimea .

Obukhova's grave is in Moscow's Novodevichy Cemetery . The asteroid (9914) Obukhova is named after her, as is a Venus crater .
