Nadia Prasad

Nadia Prasad (born Bernard ; born October 6, 1967 in Caussade , Tarn-et-Garonne ) is a former French - New Caledonian long-distance runner .

Life

She grew up in New Caledonia and at the age of 15 she took part in the South Pacific Games in 1983, where she won gold over 1500 m and 3000 m . Four years later she defended her title and also won silver in the 800 m . At this event she met the Fijian long-distance runner Binesh Prasad , whom she married two years later.

Her first major success was winning the Las Vegas Marathon in 1991. After giving birth to two children in the next two years, she returned to competition. In 1993 she was seventh in the Boston Marathon and third in the New York City Marathon . In 1995 she won the Los Angeles Marathon , became French champion over 10,000 m , and, starting for New Caledonia, won three gold medals at the South Pacific Games (over 1500 m, 3000 m and 10,000 m ). For France, she started the marathon of the World Athletics Championships in Gothenburg , but did not reach the finish.

In 1996 she set the current course record and the French record of 1:09:15 h at the Paris half marathon . In third place overall in the Paris Marathon , she was French champion, and in the marathon of the Olympic Games in Atlanta , she came in 56th place.

Nadia Prasad is 1.58 meters tall and weighs 44 kg. She lives with her husband and four children in Boulder, Colorado , where she works as a trainer and massage therapist. She has been an American since 2000 .
