Local traffic Dillenburg / Herborn

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Local public transport in the Dillenburg and Herborn area is organized by the Verkehrsgesellschaft Lahn-Dill-Weil mbH (VLDW). Both cities are also shareholders of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV).

Dillenburg and Herborn together have approx. 43,000 inhabitants; if you add the neighboring town of Haiger with its districts, the population of the three cities is approx. 63,000. Not counted here are the populous surrounding communities such as B. Dietzhölztal , Eschenburg or Driedorf . Due to the three city centers, bus traffic is also concentrated in a total of three city centers. Despite the proximity of the individual cities, each city represents its own hub for local public transport.

Since the closure of many branch lines, which started from Haiger, Dillenburg or Herborn, the surrounding traffic has been operated by buses. Three regional railway lines and two regional express lines make up the train service. Between December 2009 and December 2011 this offer was supplemented by an EC line. Rail journeys are made by DB Regio Mitte and Hessische Landesbahn . The journeys on the individual bus lines are carried out by regional transport companies.

Current situation

After severe cuts were made on many lines at the 2013/2014 timetable change due to cost-saving measures, further restrictions will follow for the 2014/2015 timetable change. But changes and optimizations also take place. In Haiger, the surrounding traffic was reorganized. The existing additional lines 102 a, 104 and 106 a were integrated into the existing lines. In addition, the growing industrial area Haiger-Kalteiche is connected by three stops. This was preceded by a new tender for the Haiger-LDK line bundle, for which the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Linienverkehr (ALV) Oberhessen was awarded the contract.

Another important change is the cancellation of parallel rail traffic, for example line 102 from Dillenburg via Manderbach, Sechshelden to Haiger to the Dillenburg – Manderbach section.

Dillenburg

The crossing point for bus and train is the Dillenburg train station in the city center. Here the bus lines from the surrounding area come together in a star shape.

The most important stop is the central bus station (ZOB) Dillenburg with six complete stopping bays and two non-covered stopping places.

City bus transport

City bus traffic in Dillenburg is limited to one line. This runs almost every hour, Monday to Sunday.

Herborn

Herborn forms the southern junction of the 3-city center and plays a key role here in terms of public transport. Herborn is the starting point for the lines of the Hessian Westerwald and for the lines into the Aartal and further towards Bad Endbach . The central stop is the bus station at Herborn train station with ten bus platforms, which enables you to change to other bus lines, but also to rail transport.

city traffic

In the course of the redesign of the Aartal 2008 and Westerwald 2009 route network , which were linked to Europe-wide tenders, the routes here were completely reorganized. Since December 13, 2009, a completely new city bus concept has been in effect in Herborn, which has replaced the previous one. The city bus concept has been revised again since December 11, 2017 and new vehicles are used.

Other important stops in Herborn, in addition to the central bus station, are the "Dillcenter" and "Leonhardsturm" stops.

Local traffic

Since the closure of the last branch line to the Herborn area, the Aar-Salzböde-Bahn to Bad Endbach, in 2001, local transport has been completely taken over by buses. In 2008 and 2009 the lines were completely redesigned and renamed. In addition, lines were synchronized to 60 and 120 minutes, and traffic on Saturdays was also expanded and synchronized. At the 2010/2011 timetable change in December 2010, however, cuts were made on some lines or pairs of trips that were underutilized were canceled. There were also some cuts in Saturday traffic; Line 530 no longer runs the whole route on Saturdays, but only between Herborn and Fleisbach . Since the timetable change in 2016/2017 in December 2016, new vehicles have been running on the "400" lines. Since the 2017/2018 timetable change in December 2017, new vehicles have also been used on the "500" lines and in some cases the route has been redesigned and additional trips are offered. For the first time, buses run across the border to Rennerod. Since May 1, 2018, some of the trips, especially during the holidays, have only been carried out as an on-call bus after prior registration with VLDW. A new on-call bus center was set up for this purpose.

Since 2017, Wetzlar has connected the Aartalsee and (only on Saturdays) Altenkirchen. Since 2018 (only on Saturdays), the stalactite caves near Breitscheid and the Fuckskaute near Waldaubach have been connected from Herborn .

The buses run on an almost 80 km long line network every two hours (between Herborn and Rennerod sometimes every hour) and (apart from one line) also carry a bicycle trailer for up to 20 bicycles (since 2018, thanks to new trailers, e-bikes can also be carried be transported). The lines are integrated into the RMV and can be used with RMV tickets at the regular RMV tariff.
