Namosi

Namosi is one of the fourteen Fijian provinces (yasana) and one of eight provinces on the island of Viti Levu . It is located west of Suva and covers an area of ​​570 km². In 2017 there were 7,871 inhabitants. This makes the province the second smallest in terms of population.

The province lies to the west of the Central Division and borders in the southwest on the province of Serua and in the west on the province of Nadroga-Navosa of the Western Division ; the provinces of Rewa and Naitasiri border on the east . A large tectonic fault line runs through Viti Levu. Part of it runs through the valleys of Navua and Waidina , which used to be part of a single river system , but are now separated by the tectonic activities that formed the Namosi Gorge .

In the province of Namosi lies the Namosi District of the same name , as well as the Veivatuloa and Wainikoroiluva districts .

The province is administered by the Namosi Provincial Council under the direction of Ratu Kiniviliame Taukeinikoro . The chief of Namosi is the Turaga Na Tui Namosi , Ratu Suliano Matanitobua .

Navua is a city in the province, parts of which extend into the territory of the Serua Province.

In Namosi, the potential of hydropower to generate energy is currently being tested; France has pledged support for a major project. There are also mineral resources in the form of copper ores.

In 2016 a hotel was licensed, which is advertised as "unplugged". The hotel is a reconstruction of a traditional Fijian village, built using traditional building methods and materials.
