Nathan's Death is an opera in two acts by Jan Müller-Wieland (music) with a libretto by George Tabori based on his play of the same name and Gotthold Ephraim Lessing's dramatic poem Nathan the Wise . It was created in 1999/2000 and was premiered on October 6, 2001 in the Görlitz Theater.

Work history
The opera was commissioned to mark the 150th anniversary of the local theater in Görlitz. The world premiere on October 6, 2001 was staged by Klaus Arauner . There were guest performances in Dresden , Wiesbaden and the Lessing city of Kamenz, among others .
In this play, Nathan and everyone who is related to him dies. The ring parable Nathan is just one in the opera tales that no one wants to hear.
Further performances were on September 12, 2002 in the Berlin Konzerthaus and on February 7, 2004 in the Moscow Conservatory .
