The Ulusal Birlik Partisi ( UBP , National Unity Party ) is a national conservative political party in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus .

history

It was founded on October 11, 1975 by Rauf Denktaş .

In the early parliamentary elections on April 19, 2009, the UBP, as the previous opposition leader, was able to win back the majority in the Assembly of the Republic . With around 44% of the vote, it secured 26 of the 50 seats and thus an absolute majority in parliament. After eight MPs left the parliamentary group in the spring of 2013 and a vote of no confidence in the government on June 5, 2013 was successful, there were again early elections on July 28, 2013 , in which the UBP almost achieved a result of 27.3 percent lost half of their seats. Since then, it has only had 18 members in parliament.

In the parliamentary election on January 7, 2018, the UBP won 35.6 percent of the vote, making it the strongest force in Northern Cyprus with 21 parliamentary seats. She has been the prime minister since May 2019.
