The National Road 17 ( Japanese 国 道 17 号 , Kokudō 17-gō ) is an important road in Japan and crosses the Japanese main island of Honshū from Chūō in central Tokyo to Niigata . Its course essentially follows that of the old Nakasendō from Nihonbashi to Takasaki .
