Okegawa ( Japanese 桶 川 市 , - shi ) is a Japanese city in the center of Saitama Prefecture .

geography

Okegawa is north of Saitama and Ageo and south of Kitamoto and Kumagaya .

The Arakawa River flows through the city from north to south. Okegawa is located on the Ōmiya plateau .

history

Okegawa was a post office ( 宿 場 町 Shukuba-machi ) of the Nakasendō during the Edo period .

The city was granted city rights on November 3, 1970 .
