history

Asaka, previously belonging to a county town since 1932 ( Asaka- machi ) in Kita-Adachi-gun ( "Circle North Adachi") was founded on 15. March 1967 Asaka-shi , so county-level city.

After the Pacific War, the North and South Camp Drake of the US military were located in Asaka on a former site of the Imperial Army . A part of South Camp Drake on today's border with the cities of Niiza , Wakō and the Tokyo district of Nerima has been the Asaka base ( Asaka chūtonchi ) of the ground self-defense forces since 1960 . This is where the shooting competitions were held at the 1964 Summer Olympics , which will also take place there again at the 2020 Summer Games .
