The nature reserve Emsaue (MS-013) is located in the area of the independent city of Münster in North Rhine-Westphalia .
The area, which consists of three sub-areas, extends northeast of the core city of Münster and east of Gelmer , a district of Münster, along the Ems , which flows on the northern and eastern edges . The Werse flows through the area and the B 481 runs along it, with the Dortmund-Ems Canal flowing to the west . East, the 63 extends ha large nature reserve Big Bree .

Since 1991, a 132.385 hectare area has been designated as a nature reserve for Münster under the identification number MS-013. The area was placed under protection
- to maintain and restore a continuous, largely natural riverine meadow landscape as the main axis of a biotope network of national importance, especially through self-development
- for the preservation, self-development and promotion of communities or habitats of certain, partly endangered or endangered, wild plant and animal species, in particular of
