The nature reserve Jacquet River Gorge ( English Jacquet River Gorge Protected Natural Area , French Zone naturelle protégée de la Gorge-de-la-Rivière-Jacquet ) is a protected area in the northeast of the Canadian province of New Brunswick . The reserve, 25 km northwest of Bathurst , was designated in 2003. The 260.74 km² nature reserve extends over Kronland in Counties Restigouche and Gloucester .
description
The nature reserve extends over a representative landscape of the Northern Uplands Ecoregion . In the north it borders on the municipality ( Village ) Belledune . The Jacquet River , which cuts deep into the hilly plateau, runs along the northwestern border. Antinouri Lake is located in the nature reserve . The heavily forested area comprises 959.2 ha of coniferous forest, 1197.3 ha of mixed forest and 242.2 ha of deciduous forest. As a Category II protected area, it is open to the public.
Wildlife
The following threatened animal species occur in the nature reserve:
- Spruce bully ( Contopus cooperi )
- Canada warbler ( Cardellina canadensis )
- Chimney Swift ( Chaetura pelagica )
- Falcon Nightjar ( Chordeiles minor )
- European red-throated warbler ( Sialia sialis )
- Little brown bat ( Myotis lucifugus )
Animal species rare in the province that can be found in the nature reserve:
- Canadian lynx ( Lynx canadensis )
- Northern moor lemming ( Synaptomys borealis )
- Yellow-nosed vole ( Microtus chrotorrhinus )
- Southern moor lemming ( Synaptomys cooperi )

The heather Pterospora andromedea and the green tongue ( Coeloglossum viride ), a species of orchid , also occur in the nature reserve .
