The forest near Müllerhof nature reserve is located west of Müllerhof in the town of Leichlingen (Rhineland) in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis .

description

It is a deciduous forest through which a straightened stream flows. In the west there is an ash forest with covering herbaceous vegetation and in the east an alder forest in which blackberries dominate. On the raised area, a beech - oak forest at the edge of the alder forest. The oaks have a trunk diameter of 40 to 50 cm, the beech from 30 to 40 cm. In the shrub layer, besides sloe and buckthorn , holly can also be found. In the northeast of the stand there is a partially multi-stemmed alder forest with ash and hybrid poplar canopies . The in places moss-rich stock is criss-crossed by drainage channels, which also show the creek vegetation. The former stream can still be seen as a slight depression in the terrain. In the south of the stand there is a very light beech forest with strong tree wood (trunk diameter 50 to 70 cm) and only very little covering of herbaceous vegetation. Large amounts of wood and grass clippings have been deposited in the stock.

Protection goals

The area is protected for the preservation of communities and habitats of certain wild-growing plants, for example quarry forest and alluvial forest as well as old wood stocks, and wild animal species as well as for natural history reasons because of the rarity and special character of the area.
