Roland Naul

Roland Naul (born November 26, 1948 in Bocholt ) is a sports educator , sports scientist , senior professor at the Westphalian Wilhelms University and founding president of the Willibald Gebhardt Institute .

Live and act

Naul graduated from the Mariengymnasium in Bocholt in 1968 and then enrolled at the Westphalian Wilhelms University to teach sport in secondary schools as well as pedagogy , sociology , psychology and the Russian language . In 1972 he finished his teacher training course and completed the subsequent master’s degree in pedagogy, sociology and sports medicine in 1974. In 1975 he became a research associate of Herwig Blankertz in his project model experiment "Kollegstufe NW" in the scientific accompaniment college level (WBK). His dissertation under the title “Analysis, construction and evaluation of a dual qualification focus profile in the collegiate school: illustrated using the example of a sports profile in the focus 'education and social affairs'” was published in 1978.

In 1980 Naul became a university professor for sports science and sports education at the University of Essen (later University of Duisburg-Essen ) and held this position until 2013. In 1992 he was co-founder and director of the Willibald Gebhardt Institute (WGI) as a research institute for sport and society, which was relocated to Münster in 2017 and has been an affiliate of the university since 2018. He carried out numerous regional and international commissioned and application projects on topics related to children's and youth sports in schools and sports clubs, which were supported at the federal level by the BMBF and BMFSFJ . Many of these empirical studies were carried out in conjunction with international sports science associations and sports science universities in Europe and Asia.

In addition to these activities, Naul was also a lecturer in tennis teacher training at the Association of German Tennis Teachers (VDT) in Essen. Between 1990 and 2002 he was a regular speaker for the advanced training of football teachers in the North Rhine and Westphalia associations of the Federation of German Football Teachers (BDFL).

Naul has been Senior Professor for European Studies in Physical Education and Youth Sport at the Institute for Sport Science at the Westphalian Wilhelms University since 2013 and Secretary General of the conseil européen des recherches en éducation physique et sportive (CEREPS) , a European research council based in Luxembourg, since 2015 .

Naul held various visiting professorships and teaching positions. a. at the University of Bochum , the German Sport University Cologne , the University of Rostock , the Martin Luther University Halle as well as in China , the USA , Canada and Israel . Since 2009 he has been a member of the teaching staff of the Olympic Masters course at the International Olympic Academy (IOA). Naul was one of the co-founders of the German-Japanese symposia on sports science and was the organizer or co-organizer of these symposia and the organizer of further symposia in cooperation with the European Academy of Sports Velen .

Science start-ups

Roland Naul has initiated or supported several scientific start-ups. He was a student representative when the “Working Group for Sport Psychology” was founded in Münster. On his initiative, the Sports Pedagogy Commission in the German Society for Educational Science (DGfE) was set up in 1978. As a member of the German Association for Sports Science (dvs), he helped found the dvs football commission (1987). In 2001 he helped found the DFG graduate college "European Society". He also supported the establishment of the Stichting gkgk Nederland (2013) and the European Research Council for Physical Education and School Sports (CEREPS).
