The Neidernach (also Naidernach , in the upper reaches Schellbach or Schellenbach ) is an approximately 13 km long, left tributary of the Loisach . The Schellbach has its origin near a saddle between the Kreuzspitze and the Schellschlicht in the Ammergau Alps . It flows through the untouched Schellental first to the southwest, then to the south. Southwest of the Schellkopf and east of the saddle In the Naidernach, the river bends to the east and is called Neidernach from here on. At the point near the three waters , the Hebertal (with the Neuweidbach) and the Schobertal (with the Schoberlaine) meet with the valley of the Neidernach from the south. A few hundred meters below, the Neidernach flows through a gorge-like narrowing. Then the valley widens and the Neidernach flows in a gravel bed up to 100 m wide. 600 m before the confluence with the Loisach near Griesen , the water is crossed by the federal highway 23 and shortly afterwards by the Ausserfernbahn .
The Schellbach and Neidernach form the border between Bavaria and Tyrol with the exception of the last 800 m before the confluence, which are entirely in Bavaria ( Garmisch-Partenkirchen district ).
Along the Neidernach a forest road about which one on foot or by bicycle from Griese leads to Plansee reached.
