Nelly's Adventure is a German children 's adventure film from 2016.

13-year-old Nelly Klabund's summer vacation in Romania takes a dramatic turn when she happens to find out about her parents' secret plan to move to Transylvania . Furious, Nelly runs away from her parents and shortly afterwards falls into the hands of kidnappers. Its leader is the unscrupulous German building contractor Wagner, who wants to prevent Nelly's father's alternative energy project through his intrigue. With the help of the opaque Mr. Holzinger, the parents go on a desperate search for their daughter.
Nelly, in turn, befriends the two Roma children Tibi and Roxana, who help her escape from the kidnappers. Together, Tibi and Nelly go on a journey through Transylvania ; they cross mountains and rivers, escape from a dungeon, steal a car and jump on a moving train. Finally, Nelly manages to embrace her parents again. Wagner's kidnapping plan failed, he was arrested when his new dam was opened. Nelly and her parents want to move to Romania after all.

Nelly's Adventure is the first feature film by director Dominik Wessely , who until then has primarily emerged with documentaries. The children's adventure fictional film was largely shot on original locations in Transylvania / Romania . The Roma characters in the film were played predominantly by members of the Roma.
The world premiere of Nelly's Adventure took place on May 29, 2016 as part of the 15th Transilvania International Film Festival in Cluj (Romania). The German premiere took place on June 24, 2016 as part of the Munich International Film Festival. There Nelly's Adventure was the opening film in the children's film series. The film was released in German cinemas on September 8, 2016 by Farbfilm Verleih. The film also opened in Austrian cinemas on November 12, 2016.
Nelly's adventure screened at 50 film festivals in 30 countries around the world. The film has won several national and international awards, including two best films.
Flora Li Thiemann was honored for her portrayal of "Nelly" at the Listapadzik Film Festival in Minsk in 2016 as the best young actor. The Children's Film Festival Seattle 2017 awarded the entire ensemble of actors the jury's award for best ensemble performance.
The film composer Franziska Henke was awarded the German Film Music Prize in the Young Talent category for her film music for Nelly's Adventure . She was also nominated for the 2017 Jerry Goldsmith Award.
Criticism of the storyline as antigypsyist - criticism of the criticism
