Nemesmedves ( German Ginisdorf ) is a municipality in Vas County in Szentgotthárd County in Hungary .
geography
The place is in the west of the country, 500 meters south of the border with Austria in the valley of the Vörös-patak .
history
The place was first mentioned in 1336 with the Latin name Medus . The first census, 1787, showed 166 inhabitants, most of whom were German-speaking. During the rule of communism in Hungary, Nemesmedves was the last place in Hungary to be conquered by the Red Army. April 4, 1945 was therefore considered a national holiday. In fact, the war on Hungarian soil did not end until April 12th. The German-speaking population of the place, which in 1941 with 344 inhabitants still made up around 94% of the population, was expelled in 1946 together with those of the German-speaking neighboring towns of Oberradling, Unterradling, Jakobshof and Raabfidisch.
