Gasztony ( German Gasting ) is a municipality in Vas County in the small area of Szentgotthárd in Hungary .
geography
The place is in the west of the country, about 3 kilometers away from the Austrian border.
Geographical location
The small elongated village is located on the western edge of the Pannonian Plain , on the left bank of the Raab .
history
Gasztony, founded in 1269, was part of Eisenburg County and was shaped before 1848 by the families of wealthy landowners such as the Gasztonys, Zelles, Szélls and Csehs. The place was known around 1900 by the Hungarian Prime Minister Kálmán Széll , who was born here and lived in the neighboring town of Rátót .
