Nerses The Nersessian

Nerses The Nersessian CAM (born November 16, 1920 in Berlin ; † December 24, 2006 ) was the Armenian Catholic Archbishop and first professor for the Armenian believers in Eastern Europe .

Life

Nerses The Nersessian received on 8 September 1946, the ordination of Chaplains of Mechitarists . After his ordination, Father Nerses also worked as a librarian in the Matenadaran manuscript institute in Yerevan in 1982 . Later he was Abbot General of the Mechitarists in Venice. On July 13, 1991, when he was appointed archbishop "ad personam", he was also appointed professor of the Armenian Catholic Church in Eastern Europe .

After his appointment as titular Archbishop of Sebaste degli Armeni on July 9, 1992, he received episcopal ordination from Pope John Paul II on November 17, 1992 . As co-consecrators assisted Patriarch of Cilicia Archbishop John Bedros XVIII. Kasparian ICPB , Bishop Grégoire Ghabroyan ICPB of Paris and Vartan Achkarian CAM, who was auxiliary bishop in Beirut .

From February 17, 2001 to April 2, 2005 Archbishop Vartan Kechichian (titular archbishop of Mardin degli Armeni ) was appointed coadjutor bishop . After his age-related resignation on April 2, 2005, he was professor emeritus for Eastern Europe until his death on December 24, 2006 , his successor being Nechan Karakéhéyan ICPB.
