geography

location

The Nesselberg is located a little north of Coppenbrügge , directly south of the Kleiner Deister and northwest of the Osterwald . It spreads north of the Gelbbach valley, through which the state road  422 runs from Eldagsen to Coppenbrügge. Immediately to the east of this valley is the Osterwald. The border between the Hanover region and the Hameln-Pyrmont district runs on the ridge of the Nesselberg ; the parts of the ridge belonging to the latter are located in the Weserbergland Schaumburg-Hameln nature park .

On the saddle between the Nesselberg and the Kleine Deister, and thus between the Wolf's Heads in the northeast and the Grasberg in the southwest, stands the old wolf beech (with hikers' car park ); this is where the Schwarze Bach rises , a tributary of the Old Gehlenbach . Both mountain ranges are bordered by the core town of Springe , the Springer districts of Altenhagen I and Eldagsen and the Coppenbrügger districts of Brünnighausen and Dörpe .

Natural allocation

The Nesselberg is located in the natural spatial main unit group Weser-Leine-Bergland (No. 37), in the main unit Calenberger Bergland (378) and in the subunit South-Hannoversche Berge (378.3) on the border of the natural areas Kleiner Deister (378.33) and Osterwald ( with Nesselberg) (378.34).

  • Grasberg ( 378.2  m )
  • Defect ( 374.9  m )
  • Schierenbrink ( 372.2  m )
  • Bolleser (approx. 300  m )

geology

The Nesselberg is characterized by outcropping sandstones , siltstones and claystones , some with deposits of hard coal . These are the so-called Upper Church layers (Wealden) of the Lower Cretaceous .

Protected areas

Parts of the Saupark nature reserve are located on the Nesselberg ( CDDA no. 30110; designated 1954; size 24.448  km² ). Except for the foothills of the ridge, those of the landscape protection areas Osterwald-Saupark (CDDA no. 323574; 1972; 16.094 km²) and the northern Osterwald and surroundings (CDDA no. 323273; 1972; 18.16 km²) extend .

Sights and leisure

Remains of the Kukesburg (Wallburg) near Altenhagen I can be seen on the Nesselberg . The quarries near this village employed around 400 miners after 1900, who quarried the valuable Nesselberg sandstone here . The outstanding architectural stone of light white-yellow color was used for the Opera House and New Town Hall in Hanover as well as for the Reichstag building in Berlin .

The Saupark Springe extends from the Kleine Deister in the north to the crest of the Nesselberg (entrance at the Hirschtor ). Part of the approximately 16 km long and approximately 2 m high sandstone wall of the park runs over the ridge of the Nesselberg.

A part of the Roswithaweg , a long-distance hiking trail from Nienburg / Weser to Bad Gandersheim , leads from north to south over the ridge and the neighboring Kleine Deister .
