history

The history of the village goes back to 1458. At that time there was a settlement here called Unter-Keszin , not to be confused with the nearby Upper Keszin , today's Chesinț .

On the Mercy map from 1723 the place Novosello is entered and 1761 Novosellopuszta is noted. In 1765, at the suggestion of the salt collector and administration councilor Carl Samuel Neumann Edler von Buchholt from Lipova, this Puszta Neudorf was created. 148 German families from Lorraine, the Odenwald, Franconia, the Palatinate and the Saarland were settled. In 1798 the then landlord Lovasz had a fort built in the grove next to the village. In 1848 the rebellious Motzen devastated the fort, which was rebuilt and extended in 1884. After 1945 the fort was expropriated and left to decay so that it was finally razed.

The Roman Catholic Church of Neudorf was built in 1771 in baroque style and restored in 1929. The crypt of the church houses the tomb of Princess Maria Ana Ferdinanda von Habsburg (1770–1809), who died here. In 1841 , Emperor Ferdinand I of Austria had a tomb made of Carrara marble built in her memory .

After the Banat was divided into three on June 4, 1920 as a result of the Treaty of Trianon , Neudorf fell to the Kingdom of Romania . The official name is still Neudorf today.
