The new office building is a building in Darmstadt .
Architecture and history
In 1825 the new office building was built on the back of the college building according to plans by Georg Moller . The building is reminiscent of the Florentine Renaissance - palaces . The four-story building has arched windows on the ground floor . The building has rectangular windows on the upper floors . The sloping slate roof rests on a sweeping cornice . The frames and walls of the openings are carved in sandstone .
The inner courtyard facade with the stairwell is remarkable . The staircase has a risalit with a gable .
Inside the building there is a vaulted coffered ceiling over the thermal bath window . The portal on the north side leads to a porch of nine square bays . Four Corinthian columns with the corresponding pilasters support the ceiling. There are belt arches on the walls , between which cross vaults are arranged.
In 1845 a two-storey west wing was built, which was extended in 1889 when the new east wing was built. These additional buildings were stylistically adapted to the college building.
The structure was largely destroyed in an air raid in 1944. In the post-war period , the main parts of the new office building were rebuilt true to the original.
The new office building today
Today the new office building houses several departments of the Darmstadt Regional Council .
Monument protection
For architectural and city history reasons, the building is a cultural monument .
