Neustadt / Heese is a district of the city of Celle in Lower Saxony , which is southwest of the city center.

history

The Neustadt was created in 1632 after the resettlement of the Westceller Vorstadt in favor of the expansion of the city fortifications during the Thirty Years War had become necessary. As early as 1664, 67 residential buildings were counted. In the same year there was a plague epidemic, after which the Neustadt was given its own cemetery.

From 1680 onwards, Duke Georg-Wilhelm zu Braunschweig-Lüneburg planned a planned town in a checkerboard pattern in front of the Westceller Tor , the final implementation of which did not take place. The approaches can only be seen in the Trift ( Neuenhäusen district ). In 1685, 1832 and 1862 there were devastating fires in the Neustadt.

Together with the village of Heese, the Neustadt was incorporated into Celle in 1869.

The so-called "Heesegebiet" was developed from 1924 onwards.

The Celler Hasenjagd called Celle Massacre , fell on April 8, 1945 in the New Town timber and the city at least 170 concentration camp prisoners to the victim.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church District of Celle includes the Neustadt Church (see history) in Neustadt, west of the train station , and the modern Pauluskirche in Rostocker Straße in Heese.

Located at the Waldfriedhof is the St. Hedwig Catholic Church, built in 1955/56 according to plans by Josef Fehlig , which has belonged to the parish of St. Ludwig since 2006 .

The Neustadt / Heese local council has 11 members (4 CDU , 4 SPD , 1 Bündnis90 / Die Grünen , 1 Die Linke and 1 voter community).

Buildings, culture and sights

The Evangelical Lutheran Neustädter Church , in neo-Romanesque style, was completed in 1909 by Otto Haesler . Its pulpit was donated by Ernst August (II.) Von Hannover , the then Duke of Cumberland . It depicts a carved Christ and the four archangels . In 1972/73 the choir of the church was redesigned. In 1989 the tower was renovated and an organ was added.
The Neustädter Holz is a 730 hectare forest area between the Neustadt / Heese district of Celle and Hambühren.
