Never Can Say Goodbye is a 1971 song by The Jackson Five , written by Clifton Davis and produced by Hal Davis. It appeared on the album Maybe Tomorrow .

Never Can Say Goodbye is a serious love song (compared to ABC ). The lead singer was Michael Jackson , who was twelve years old at the time. The background vocals are from his brothers. The song was originally written for The Supremes , but Berry Gordy , head of the Motown label , thought The Jackson Five would be more suitable. The publication was on March 16, 1971.

In 1974, Gloria Gaynor released her version of the song, which is featured on the album of the same name. The cover goes into the music genres of soul and the then contemporary disco , which is why it sounds “much happier” compared to the original.
