Cardinal Nicola Parracciani Clarelli

Nicola Paracciani Clarelli (born April 12, 1799 in Rieti , † July 7, 1872 in Vico Equense ) was an Italian cardinal and archpriest of St. Peter's Basilica .

He was also treasurer of the Holy College of Cardinals and prefect of the Congregation for Bishops .

Life

On July 8, 1822 he received his doctorate in both rights .

He was ordained a priest on June 1, 1822. He then attended the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy .

In 1819 he was the personal chamberlain of Pope Pius VII.

On January 22, 1844, Pope Gregory XVI appointed him . Bishop of Corneto and Montifiascone and Cardinal. On January 25th he was assigned the titular church of San Pietro in Vincoli . The Pope himself consecrated him on February 11, 1844 with the assistance of Cardinals Costantino Patrizi Naro and Gabriele Ferretti in St. Peter's Basilica as bishop. In June 1854 he resigned as diocesan bishop .

On October 10, 1860, he was called to be secretary of the Congregation for the Appointment of the Church and Consistorial Institutions. This position is comparable to the current Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops. On April 24, 1863, he was appointed secretary of the Roman Curia. On February 22, 1867 he was appointed Cardinal Bishop of Frascati and in 1870 Archpriest of St. Peter's Basilica and Prefect of the Congregazione della Reveranda Fabbrica of St. Peter, a forerunner of St. Peter's Cathedral Builders .

He took part in the conclave of 1846 , which Pius IX. elected, and participated in the First Vatican Council in 1869 and 1870.
