Nicholas Gartside

Nicholas "Nick" J. Gartside (* 1975 in Warrington ) is a British investment and insurance manager. Since March 2019 he has been the Chief Investment Officer on the board of the DAX group Munich Re .

Career

Gartside studied history and political science at the University of Durham , where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1996 . In 1997 he completed a Masters in International Relations from the University of Cambridge .

Gartside's first work station was Mercury Asset Management , where he worked as a fund manager as well as at Schroder Investment Management, which followed in 2002 . From August 2008 he headed the Global Fixed Income division . In 2010 he moved to the London asset management branch of JP Morgan , where he was International Chief Investment Officer, in addition to the bond business, also responsible for currency transactions and commodities .

At the beginning of 2019, the Supervisory Board of Munich Re appointed Gartside as Chief Investment Officer with effect from March 18 of that year , combined with the separately created area of ​​responsibility on the Board of Management to centralize profit responsibility for the optimization of the investment portfolio and the corresponding investment income as a profit component. This means that he is also the member of the board responsible for the asset management subsidiary MEAG , one of the largest asset management companies in Europe. Not least because of his career to date, Gartside is a specialist in fixed-income securities, in which Munich Re has traditionally invested heavily. At the same time, in his first year he initiated greater diversification, for which he focused on investments in the infrastructure sector, private equity, real estate and raw materials.

Gartside holds the Chartered Financial Analyst title and Investment Management Certificate from the UK Society of Investment Professionals .
