Nicholas Jesse Kaczur ([Kay-zer]; born July 28, 1979 in Brantford , Ontario, Canada) is a former Canadian American football player who played tackle and guard for the New England Patriots in the National Football League (NFL) .

Career

college

Kaczur played college football at the University of Toledo for the Toledo Rockets from 2001 to 2004 . As a true freshman , he was named a starter, which made him the first true freshman to start the Rockets' offensive line since 1978. For the Rockets, he started in all 51 games of his college career as a left tackle. He was elected to the All-MAC team in all four seasons, from 2002 to 2004 even always to the first-team All-MAC . He is just one of two Rockets who have won many All-MAC awards. In his final season, he was a candidate for the Outland Trophy and the Lombardi Award . After graduating in Toledo, he received an invitation to the East-West Shrine Game and the Hula Bowl . In 2012 he was inducted into the University of Toledo's Athletic Hall of Fame. For the Rockets' centenary in 2017, Kaczur was voted 16th on the All-Century Team.

NFL

Kaczur was selected in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots . He was also selected in the first round as the ninth player in the CFL Draft by the Toronto Argonauts . In his rookie season he was already a starting left tackle. At the beginning of his second season, Kaczur was unable to play due to a shoulder injury. He therefore sat out the beginning of the season and only started again for the Patriots in November 2006, but this time as a right tackle. He kept this position in the following seasons. Among them was the 2007 season , in which the Patriots didn't suffer a single defeat until the Super Bowl before they lost to the New York Giants . In March 2010, Kaczur was selected for his good performance in the New England Patriots 2000s All-Decade Team . In the 2010 season he went as a starting left guard, where he should replace Logan Mankins . However, a back injury that required surgery put him out of action during the preseason . He stayed in the squad until October 13, 2010, before the Patriots put him on the Injured Reserve List . On June 29, 2011, Kaczur was released. By then he had started 62 games for the Patriots.

Personal

In 2008, Kaczur was arrested after several hundred oxicodine pills were found on him during a traffic stop. He agreed to suspend the proceedings with six months probation, in return for which he helped the DEA to arrest the distributor through an undercover operation. In 2013 he was caught by the authorities for the same offense; again he escaped from prison by aiding and abetting arrest.
