Nickel (III) oxide is a chemical compound of the metal nickel and belongs to the group of oxides . Nickel (III) oxide has a strong oxidizing effect and is unknown as a pure substance. Commercially available black nickel oxide is often described as nickel (III) oxide, but this is probably a non- stoichiometric nickel (II) oxide .

Extraction and presentation

Impure nickel (III) oxide can be produced when welding nickel alloys.

Nickel (III) oxide could be obtained in a mixture with nickel (II) oxide by chemical vapor deposition on surfaces.

Nickel (III) oxide has a strong oxidizing effect. It is able to react with hydrogen chloride to form elemental chlorine .

use

Black nickel oxide is used as an electrolyte , for the production of ceramic materials , as a catalyst , as a colorant in enamel production and for the production of plates for alkaline batteries .
