Nico Däbritz (born August 26, 1971 in Freital ) is a former German soccer player and current coach . He played in the area of the GDR Football Association (DFV) as well as the German Football Association (DFB) in the first division and in junior national teams.
Career as a soccer player
Däbritz began his football career with the Sports Association (BSG) engine in the south of Dresden located Bannewitz . He finally came to SG Dynamo Dresden , the soccer center of the East Saxon area, through BSG Stahl Freital . There he played from 1987 to 1989 in the junior league and from 1989 to 1991 in the junior league. In 1988 he was both GDR youth and junior champions with Dynamo Dresden. In 1988 and 1989 he was part of the U-18 national team of the GDR, for which he played several junior internationals as a midfielder. He made his debut in the men's division in the 1988/89 season with four point games and one goal for Dynamo Dresden II in the second-rate GDR league . 1989 Däbritz was appointed to the soccer team of the GDR , with which he played several test matches. Even before the start of the qualifying games for the 1992 Olympics, the team was withdrawn in the course of German reunification . The 1.80 m tall Däbritz played his only game in the GDR league on September 1, 1990 in the match on the third day of the match between Dynamo Dresden and FC Berlin (4-1), when he was substituted on in the 39th minute.
For the 1991/92 season Däbritz moved to VfB Leipzig in the 2nd Bundesliga , where he was initially only a substitute. He was only used on the 14th matchday, and of his 13 league games in this season he completed only four games as a midfielder over the full 90 minutes. In the following 1992/93 season, he made 39 league appearances and made it into the core team of VfB, which at the end of the season had made it to the 1st Bundesliga . In his first Bundesliga season, Däbritz played 24 of the 34 games and was always in midfield. At the same time he was included in the squad of the U-21 national team, for which he played the international match Germany - Greece (3: 3) on September 21, 1993. After only one year, VfB relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga, in which Däbritz played for the Leipzig team until they were relegated to the Regionalliga in 1998 and was always part of the regular formation. In addition to his 24 first division games, he played 164 second division games until his departure and scored a total of twelve championship goals.
At the beginning of the 1998/99 season Däbritz moved back to the 1st Bundesliga for VfL Wolfsburg . There he was only used in eight league games at the end of the season, including only one 90-minute encounter. In 1999/2000 Däbritz was only a substitute for Wolfsburg with eleven Bundesliga games. In summer 2000 Däbritz returned to the 2nd Bundesliga and now played for Hannover 96 . There he was in the team in 20 league games from the start in the 2000/01 season, but was also substituted eleven times early. After he was not used at all in the first half of the 2001/02 season at Hanover, Däbritz switched to league rivals SV Babelsberg 03 in early 2002 . There, too, he was only a substitute with his nine short-term appearances and a 90-minute game.
For the 2002/03 season Däbritz returned to Dynamo Dresden, now only a third division in the regional league . There he was able to fight for a place in the extended team as a midfielder and was used 21 times in the 34-game season. Because of a knee injury, he then had to end his career as a football player.
Career as a coach
Däbritz stayed with Dynamo Dresden after his career ended, worked in the youth team and in April 2011 became assistant coach of the first team under Ralf Loose as the successor to Nikica Maglica . He also took over the management of the scouting team.
