Nicolas Raguenet

Nicolas-Jean-Baptiste Raguenet (* 1715 ; † May 17, 1793 in Gentilly near Paris ) was a French painter who is known for his views of the city of Paris and especially the banks of the Seine .

He was born the son of the comedian and painter Jean-Baptiste Raguenet (1682–1755) and the Geneviève Murgues. After training at the Académie de Saint-Luc , he and his father ran a workshop for city views in the center of Paris on the Île de la Cité .

Raguenet's works impress with their high, almost photographic precision , which is why, in addition to their artistic quality , they are of irreplaceable value for the documentation of the history of Paris. The Musée Carnavalet bought several of his works in 1882, at least two other works are in the Musée du Louvre .

The painting Le Palais des Tuileries vue du Quai d'Orsay (1757) was used by the painter Jean Lefeuvre (1882–1975) when the new franc was created at the end of the 1950s as a template for the back of the 10-franc banknote .
