Niederhonnefeld is a part of the community of Straßenhaus in the district of Neuwied in Rhineland-Palatinate . The place belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Rengsdorf-Waldbreitbach .

location

Niederhonnefeld is located in the Rhine-Westerwald Nature Park , twelve kilometers as the crow flies north of the city of Neuwied . In the local area, the Häßbach flows into the Höllsbach and this in turn into the Fockenbach . The district of Niederhonnefeld borders in the north on Hümmerich , in the east on Ellingen , in the south-east on Jahrsfeld , in the south on Bonefeld , in the south-west on Kurtscheid and in the north-west on Breitscheid .

The district road 103 leads through Niederhonnefeld. The federal road 256 is one kilometer southeast of the village, the federal freeway 3 , junction Neuwied, is just under three kilometers from Niederhonnefeld.

history

Niederhonnefeld historically belonged to the County of Wied and for a long time lay in various border regions, including the County of Sayn and most recently until 1806 near the border with the Electorate of Trier . Thereafter, the place belonged to the administrative district Ehrenbreitstein in the Duchy of Nassau , through the agreements made at the Congress of Vienna , the region around Niederhonnefeld was ceded to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1815. Niederhonnefeld belonged to the mayor's office in Anhausen in the Neuwied district in the Koblenz administrative district . From 1822 this was part of the Rhine Province .

In 1845, Niederhonnefeld and the neighboring community of Ellingen were united with the introduction of the “Prussian Land Community Code for the Rhine Province” to form the community of Niederhonnefeld-Ellingen. Until shortly after the end of the First World War , there was a school in Niederhonnefeld for children from the villages of Niederhonnefeld, Ellingen and Jahrsfeld . After the Second World War, Niederhonnefeld belonged to the Rhineland-Palatinate Office of Rengsdorf. The community Niederhonnefeld-Ellingen was dissolved after an official resolution of July 7, 1966 with effect from August 1, 1966, Niederhonnefeld and Ellingen became independent districts of the newly founded local community of Straßenhaus . In 1968, the Rengsdorf Association was formed from the Rengsdorf Office , and since its dissolution on January 1, 2018, Niederhonnefeld has belonged to the Rengsdorf-Waldbreitbach Association .

Culture and sights

In Niederhonnefeld there are several half-timbered houses that are under monument protection, and the natural monuments rock formation Stangenstein and rock formation Hangeley are located in the local area . A natural swimming pool has existed in the village since 1927 , which was created after the establishment of a special-purpose association for the spa business in the community. The bathroom was completed in 1930.
