Nijmegen-Nieuw-West is a municipality in Nijmegen in the Dutch province of Gelderland , where around 16,790 people live in an area of 6.41 square kilometers .
geography
The district is located in the west of the municipality of Nijmegen and borders on the neighboring municipality of Beuningen . Weurt , a village that belongs to Beuningen, is separated from Nijmegen-Nieuw-West by the Maas-Waal Canal and, like the Lindenholt district, can be reached via the Neerbosschebrug and the Sluiscomplex Weurt . In the north, Nijmegen-Nieuw-West is cut off from the Nijmegen-Noord district by the Waal . Furthermore, the neighboring districts of Nijmegen-Noord, Nijmegen-Oud-West, Nijmegen-Midden and Lindenholt are.
Attractions
- The NYMA watertoren is a building on the banks of the Waal, which is protected as a municipal monument. It served the former Nyma rayon factory and was built in 1929. On November 14, 2012, it was added to the list of municipal monuments and is symbolic of the Nijmeegse industry.
- The De Oversteek road bridge connects the districts of Nijmegen-Nieuw-West and Nijmegen-Noord. The construction of the network arch bridge was completed in 2013 . It should relieve the eastern road bridge, the Waalbrug . The bridge has the longest span in Europe, consisting of an arch. The name of the bridge recalls the crossing of the Waal on September 20, 1944, when American parachutists crossed the river in canvas boats during Operation Market Garden .

In the south of the district, Nijmegen-Nieuw-West is intersected by Provinciale Weg 326 , which connects Rijksweg 50 with Wijchen and the city center of Nijmegen. In addition, the feeder roads s 100 , s 101 , s 102 and s 103 run through the district. Nijmegen-Nieuw-West itself is not connected to the rail network in the Netherlands. However, the Tilburg – Nijmegen railway line touches the district on the southern edge . The closest train stations are Nijmegen and Nijmegen Goffert . The Maas-Waal Canal is an essential link between the Maas and Waal rivers . The industrial ports of Noordkanaalhaven and Oostkanaalhaven are important contact points for container ships and are located on the Maas-Waal Canal.
