Nikolaus Graf Lambsdorff

Nikolaus von der Wenge Graf Lambsdorff (born August 10, 1954 in Cologne ) is a German diplomat . He was the German Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova and the German Ambassador to Malaysia .

Life

Nikolaus Graf Lambsdorff is the son of the FDP politician Otto Graf Lambsdorff and his first wife Renate, b. Lepper. After graduating from the Landrat-Lucas-Gymnasium , Graf Lambsdorff did his military service in the armed forces and then completed a degree in economics and political science at the University of Hamburg , which he graduated with a degree in economics and political science.

He then joined the Foreign Service in 1984 and, after completing his career examination, found work at diplomatic missions in Indonesia , Estonia , the USA , Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo, as well as at the headquarters of the Foreign Office in Bonn and Berlin .

In 2007 he received his accreditation as ambassador to the Republic of Moldova as successor to Wolfgang Lerke and worked there until he was replaced by Berthold Johannes in 2010.

Since his return to the Federal Republic in 2010, Graf Lambsdorff was ministerial director in the Foreign Office and was responsible for Southeastern Europe , Turkey and the states of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). In this function, he was responsible for Divisions 208 and 209 of the Foreign Office for these countries.

From July 2013 to July 2017 Graf Lambsdorff was Consul General in Hong Kong and Macau at the German Consulate General in Hong Kong.

From August 2017 up to and including June 30, 2020 Nikolaus Graf Lambsdorff was ambassador to the permanent German mission in Kuala Lumpur . In the “Landsleutebrief dated June 26, 2020” Lambsdorff announced his departure. During his tenure since 2017, he experienced three Malaysian governments. In particular, the parliamentary elections in May 2018, after which a government of "hope" ( Malay Pakatan Harapan ) came into being, he described as historic. In his view, Malaysia was politically stable and economically well positioned at the time of his departure as ambassador.

Nikolaus Graf Lambsdorff is married and has one adult son.
