history
1974 was in the area of today's settlement oilfield Nischnesortymskoje discovered. It got its name from its location on the lower reaches (Russian nischne- for under- ) of the Sortymka (also Sortym-Pim ), which flows into the Pim a little further north , whose name is derived from the chantic words sort for pike and ym for good .
In the 1980s, the exploitation of the deposit began, and in 1988 a workers' settlement of the same name was built, which belonged to the former urban-type Ljantorski - now the city of Ljantor - located a good 90 km south .
On October 14, 1991, the place was spun off as an independent settlement Nizhnesortymski . Despite its urban character with predominantly multi-storey prefabricated buildings , Nizhnesortymsky has until today (2012) the status of a rural settlement. Population growth up to around 25,000 is planned.
