Nissequogue is a place on the north coast of Long Island in the US state of New York . It has incorporated village status and belongs to Smithtown in Suffolk County . According to the 2010 census, the village had 1,749 inhabitants.
geography
Nissequogue has an area of 10.3 km², of which 9.8 km² is land and 0.5 km² is water. It takes the face of a peninsula in the Long-Iceland-Sund belonging Smithtown Bay , which east of the bay Stony Brook Harbor and west of the mouth of the Nissequogue River is limited. It borders on St. James and the main town of Smithtown to the south , on the other banks are Stony Brook and Head of the Harbor to the east and Kings Park to the west .
The eastern tip of the peninsula runs out into an elongated dune area, called Long Beach , the western tip is called Short Beach . Both are partially nature reserves. The Nissequogue River State Park , however, is not located in the area of Nissequogue, but on the other bank in Kings Park.
The village is rather thin and built on only with residential houses, with lots of forest areas between the houses.
history
The first European settlement in the Smithtown area was established in 1665 in what is now Nissequogue, and the first church was built in 1675. The incorporation took place in 1926.
Culture and sights
There is a golf course in Nissequogue and the beaches and nature parks are also tourist destinations.
Infrastructure
Nissequogue only has smaller local roads and no connection to train or bus lines.
