Norbert Callens (born June 22, 1924 in Wakken ; † March 12, 2005 in Loppem ) was a Belgian cyclist .

Athletic career

Morbert Callens was a professional from 1945 to 1952. In his first professional season he won the Tour of Belgium in front of Sylvain Grysolle and Désiré Keteleer . In 1946 he was fifth in the Tour de Suisse and third in the Tour of Luxembourg . In the same year he finished sixth in Paris – Nice . In 1950 Callens took third place on the Tour of the Netherlands .

In 1949 Callens won the third stage of the Tour de France , which ended in Boulogne-sur-Mer . For one day he was the overall leader, but he was not given a yellow jersey because the car with the material had not arrived on time. Callens then borrowed a yellow shirt. Since he lost the lead again the next day, he never wore the official jersey. In 1994 a stage of the Tour ended again in Boulogne-sur-Mer, and Callens, now 70 years old, was invited and the jersey was given to him afterwards.
